Tool Kit: DNA Evidence Collection

Here are a few items to help with the collection of forensic DNA evidence.

The Siemens Tissue Preparation Solution is a fully automated solution for the extraction of nucleic acids from formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded tissue and Fresh Frozen tissue. The Tissue Preparation System and the VERSANT Tissue Preparation Reagents kit combine to enable the co-extraction of DNA and RNA from a single extraction process. Up to 48 samples can be processed in about 4 hours.

The M-Vac System is a wet-vacuum collection device that excels at helping investigators collect saliva, blood, or seminal fluids from a variety of surfaces such as fabrics, rocks, and walls by combining a sterile spray with vacuum pressure. The M-Vac is especially effective on porous surfaces and in touch-DNA scenarios. The technique has been shown to surpass swabbing by as much as 100x.

The Bode SecurSwab 2 is a DNA collection system that integrates the collection, labeling, protection, preservation, transportation, processing and storage of DNA evidence. The new design dries collected samples more than 5-times faster. The faster drying and protected sample results in more than a 2.5-times higher DNA recovery than other systems.
