3rd Annual AISOCC Educational Conference Wrap-up

The AISOCC 3rd Annual Educational Conference, June 26-29, 2016 in St. Louis, started the week on Sunday with a Presidential Reception and Book Signing Event. Many AISOCC authors and vendors had their books on display for purchase and personal autographing for the conference attendees. President Kenneth Mains opened Monday ceremonies and Vice President Dr. Laura Pettler introduced and welcomed the conference vendors.

Monday’s presentations commenced with Joseph Kennedy, Special Agent with Naval Criminal Investigative Service (NCIS) for 25 years, and recently profiled in “Delayed Justice – America’s Best Cold Case Investigators”, presenting on the “Steps to Work a Cold Case”. Following his presentation was Dr. Bruce Harry and his presentation on the "Statistical analysis of intentional airplane and pilot crashes". Melissa Gregory, Regional System Administrator for NamUs, presented "The Role NamUs can play in assisting law enforcement with Missing and Unidentified Persons Cold Cases". W. Jerry Chisum, AISOCC Review Board Member, presented "Examining physical evidence in staged crime scenes". Lee Mellor, PhD candidate presented, "Presenting the role of Sexual Sadist in sadistic murders and how to identify sexually sadistic behavior at crime scenes". And closing out the presentations Monday was Jared Bradley, CEO of M-Vac, on the value of using this wet vac system for the collection of DNA in Cold Cases. Monday evening concluded with at “Taste of St. Louis” reception in the vendor area to thank the vendors for their participation and support in the AISOCC mission.

Tuesday's presentations started with Lesley Hammer, Past President of the International Association of Identification and President of Hammer Forensics and her presentation on "Meaningful and Reliable Physical Comparisons of Impressions on Skin"; Dr. Katherine Ramsland, AISOCC Consulting Committee member and author to over 60 books on subjects of serial killers, forensic science, mass murder, sex offenders and haunted crime scenes presenting "Mental Mapping and the challenges they may pose for those involved in the investigative process"; followed by Dr. Cyril Wecht, renowned forensic pathologist and AISOCC Review Board member having performed more than 20,000 autopsies, presenting the “Role of the Forensic Pathologist in the Resolution of Cold Cases”; Dr. Mark Perlin, the founder of Cybergenetics and the creator of the TrueAllele® presented "Justice Denied: Mr. Hopkin’s Invisible Semen"; Anthony Meoli, presenting 20 years of his personal communication of writing, speaking and visiting serial killers, presenting new insight into the minds of serial killers in ways never heard before, dispelling the old triad myth of bed-wetting, fire-setting, and animal cruelty; Dr. Robert Record presenting "Mentally Disordered Offenders and Violent Crime"; and wrapping up Tuesday was James Markey and his presentation "Sexual Assault Kit Backlog; DNA and Beyond".

Several vendors — LexisNexis, Bode Cellmark, and SnapShot DNA — made short presentations throughout Monday and Tuesday.


The Taste of St. Louis Vendor Event

In a closed meeting Wednesday, AISOCC Review Board Members, Board of Directors, and Consulting Committee members reviewed presentations of cold cases for consideration by AISOCC forensic experts continuing our mission of assisting law enforcement with cold cases at no charge.

Attendance continues to grow each year, and we invite you the 4th Annual AISOCC Educational Conference to be held at the St. Louis Airport Hilton, June 25 – June 28, 2017.
