Maximum purity for optimal safety in preanalytics

The new Forensic Swabs from Sarstedt are suited for the collection of both reference samples and evidence of DNA traces at crime scenes. Apart from Forensic Swabs with polystyrene stem, The Sarstedt range also includes a wooden stem option. The Forensic Swab L has an extended handle for the hygienic collection of reference samples. The Forensic Swab XL with extended stem is ideal for the collection of evidence in sexual assault cases.

The ventilation membrane in the tube base enables self-drying of the swab within the tube. Drying of the swab in the open, i.e. outside the tube, as in standard systems is unnecessary, thereby excluding the risk of mix-up and contamination.

Stringent purity conditions in the production process and a special EtO sterilization method developed by Sarstedt to comply with the requirements of forensic analysis ensure the absence of DNA contamination.

Free of DNA

The Forensic Swab is produced under the most stringent hygienic purity conditions. The completely assembled swab is then individually wrapped and the final product subjected to a special EtO sterilization procedure developed for forensic applications.

With a test procedure based on a detection limit of 0.023ng DNA/μl extracted volume, absence of DNA is now guaranteed. A 62bp amplicon also enables the detection of partly degraded DNA (target gene: human telomerase reverse transcriptase (5p15.33), single-copy gene).

Drying behavior

The Forensic Swab is packaged in a transport tube with ventilation membrane. This ventilation membrane ensures a self-drying process in the tube and also protects the swab against contamination. A dry swab prevents bacteria and mildew growth, which make analysis impossible and destroy the sample.
