Complex Latent Print Examination
From Monday, March 05 2018
To Friday, March 09 2018
Every day

 Sponsor: Ron Smith and Associates

Description: This is a more advanced course that is intended for examiners with more than a basic to intermediate level of experience comparing friction ridge impressions. It is best if the student has previously been exposed to some of the basics of Ridgeology, ACE-V, and familiarity with the Daubert issues. The course deals with complex issues such as uncertainty, error rates, cognitive bias, and complex distortions and analyses. Students should come prepared to hear new views and see new research on these topics.  This course is also recommended for agencies dealing with issues of meeting accreditation requirements specifically related to documenting and understanding the process of ACE-V or finding new ways to deal with the criticisms in the 2009 NAS report of forensic sciences. Be prepared to be challenged during the lectures, class discussions and the comparisons that are all part of this course.
