Free Screening of Feature Film 'Test Pattern'

April 21, 2021 — The Academy of Forensic Nursing, along with Leda Health, will be screening the film Test Pattern on April 28, followed by a Q&A panel. Intended for all advocates, nurses, lawyers, and allies, the movie "is set against the backdrop of national discussions around inequitable health care and policing, the #metoo movement, and race in America."

From the screening's website: "Test Pattern follows an interracial couple whose relationship is put to the test after a Black woman is sexually assaulted and her white boyfriend drives her from hospital to hospital in search of a rape kit. Their story reveals the systemic injustices and social conditioning women face when navigating sex and consent within the American patriarchy. Winner of top prizes at the BlackStar and New Orleans Film Festivals, this gripping social thriller offers a unique exploration of institutional racism and sexism from a Black woman's point of view."

The screening of Test Pattern will begin online April 28 at 6 p.m. EST, followed by the live Q&A at 7:30 p.m. EST. The Q&A will feature a panel of experts including Shatara Michelle Ford, the director of Test Pattern; Amani Starnes, who plays Nurse Peg in Test Pattern; Tamara Jackson, board member of the Academy of Forensic Nursing; and Catherine Rossi, president of the Academy of Forensic Nursing. Seats for the screening and Q&A are limited. Register here.

In addition to, and in honor of, the screening, the hosts are sponsoring five BIPOC nurses to become sexual assault nurse examiners. Those selected will receive free training from the Academy of Forensic Nursing along with a free two-year membership. Those interested in this opportunity can fill out the form here.

ONE OF THE CHALLENGES of writing and editing a magazine is telling a story in a relatively small amount of space. Sometimes it seems like there is never enough room to say everything that needs to be said. I find myself making tough decisions about what parts stay and what parts go.
