Webinar: Overdose Fatality Reviews

July 19, 2021 — A webinar on Tuesday, July 27 hosted by the Forensic Technology Center of Excellence, titled "Multiple Perspectives on Overdose Fatality Reviews", will take a look at engaging partnerships with coroners, medical examiners, and medicolegal death investigators during overdose fatality reviews.

The webinar brings together three presentations that provide a look at OFRs from a county-level, rural community, and state-wide approach.

• Presenter Kimerly Reilly from Ocean County (New Jersey) Health Department will discuss her agency's Ocean County Overdose Fatality Review Program, the data it has collected over several years, and how that data was used.

• For the rural approach, Kimbra Reynolds of the Jay County Drug Prevention Coalition and Overdose Fatality Review Coordinator for Jay County, Indiana, will look at forming local partnerships in a county-level OFR for rural communities.

• And at the state level, Megan Broekemeier and Kacy Robinson with the Utah Department of Health provide information on the development of a statewide opioid fatality review that brings together the state health department, the Office of the Medical Examiner, and other key agencies.

Bloodstain Pattern Analysis

Most forensic disciplines attempt to determine the “who” of a crime. But bloodstain pattern analysis focuses on the “what happened” part of a crime. This book is the third edition of Blood-stain Pattern Analysis. The authors explore the topic in depth, explaining what it is, how it is used, and the practical methodologies that are employed to achieve defensible results. It offers practical, common-sense advice and tips for both novices and professionals. www.crcpress.com
